Dusky Lark was created with a simple belief: gifting should feel meaningful.
We’re a small (but mighty) multicultural team of designers, makers, and creative problem-solvers brought together by a shared love of thoughtful gifting, craftsmanship, and the small details that make something feel personal. We create custom gift boxes and engraved keepsakes designed to mark life’s most meaningful moments — gifts that feel intentional from the first impression to the moment they’re opened, and long after.
Most members of our team come from Ukrainian-American background, and that heritage deeply shapes how we see beauty, materials, hospitality, and meaningful giving. There’s a strong sense of warmth and generosity in the way we were raised — gathering around the table, bringing gifts with intention, keeping objects that tell stories, and surrounding ourselves with pieces made with care. That perspective naturally found its way into Dusky Lark.
We’re endlessly inspired by natural materials, timeless design, and craftsmanship that feels honest in the hand — solid wood, leather, metal, stone, marble, handmade ceramics, small-batch foods, hand-poured candles, and pieces made slowly by people who truly care about what they’re creating. We believe the objects we give can hold meaning, carry memory, and become part of someone’s home and everyday rituals.
Our story is also shaped by resilience. Building Dusky Lark as a small independent business has taught us to be resourceful, adaptable, and deeply intentional in every decision we make. It has also strengthened our belief in supporting other small businesses doing the same.

What We Do
Every gift we create begins with intention — thoughtfully sourced, beautifully assembled, and designed to feel meaningful from the moment it arrives. We believe gifting should feel personal, memorable, and lasting — something that becomes part of someone’s story rather than simply a moment of unboxing.
We work closely with artisans and makers we know by name — local makers, independent studios, family-run workshops, women-owned brands, immigrant-owned businesses, and underrepresented small businesses whose creativity and craftsmanship are at the heart of what they do. Over the years, we’ve been proud to collaborate with hundreds of makers across the United States, many of them local to us here in Maryland and throughout the DMV area.
About 90% of the products we source come from small and underrepresented businesses, and that’s a part of Dusky Lark we care deeply about. From hand-poured candles and specialty foods to ceramics, leather goods, textiles, and home pieces, every item is selected not only for how it looks, but for the story behind it, the quality of its craftsmanship, and how it feels to receive and use.
Each gift box is curated with balance in mind — practical and beautiful, elevated yet approachable, timeless but personal. Our goal is always to create gifts that feel thoughtful, useful, and worth keeping long after the occasion has passed.
How It Started
Dusky Lark began with a simple frustration: so many gift boxes felt forgettable.
Too often, gifting felt rushed, overly branded, or filled with things chosen for convenience rather than meaning — products that looked nice for a moment but didn’t feel personal, useful, or worth keeping. We felt there was space for something different: gift boxes that felt more intentional, more beautiful, and more connected to the person receiving them.
What started as a small side hustle quickly grew into something much larger — a studio built around thoughtful gifting, custom engraving, and carefully curated objects made by people who care deeply about craftsmanship. From the beginning, the goal was never simply to put products inside a box. It was to create a gift that feels complete — something warm, lasting, and memorable from the first impression to the moment it’s opened, and long after.
